FITTING AN UNDERTRAY
OK, here is the update on my undertray. I have fitted it to the blue and white RF900.
There was no problem getting the undertray from Brazil and I wasn't even charged import tax so that was a nice change. On arrival, I was satisified with it but after fitting it, there proved to be a few problems.
Anyone who knows me, knows my mechanical ability is not too clever but I will have a go. once shown how to do something, I am usually ok. Trouble was no one showed me how to fit this and the instructions were by no means easy to follow. In fact I would suggest chucking them!!!
First of all, I removed the old rear guard
Then take the rails off each side

The first real problem I found was when offered up to the battery compartment, if using the existing battery holder bolt holes, they miss the undertray. This I overcame by making a bracket from the old numberplate bracket. Flattened it out and used the battery compartment/rear brake cylinder bolts to hold the plate then attached the undertray to the top of the bracket.
The next problem was the moving of the seat lock. If mounted in the correct place, one fixing point would be over the edge of the undertray. So it had to be moved slightly.

The top of the normal rear fairings each side (with centre piece) was then offered up. It wasn't too bad but not a perfect fit and had to be coaxed into position. A self tapping screw with a U fastener each side at the battery end held the undertray to the rear fairing.

The undertray came with a number plate holder. Some after market indicators (these are not very good and will need to be replaced as they are very fragile. Bolt connected to rubber and one already came off when tightening but a repair made.) were added.
One more problem I found. The battery end of the undertray hits on the hugger - need cutting away - I found out the hard way!!!

Two pictures of it finished.
One more problem I think. I haven't ridden it yet, but just getting it out of the shed, it seems as though the undertray is "creaking" and I think it is probably hitting the frame or more likely the rear footrest hangers. It's not that bad and I will take a better look when I have more time.
As I have stated earlier, I am NOT the best person in the world to do this but that proves the point that if I can do it, it can't be that difficult.
I am pleased with the look although as I worked on the undertray, it became obvious that the moulding isn't very thick and is not the best quality around - but time will tell.
I hope this was of use to you - ride safely.
